Family Living

Welcome to the Family Living Home Page for Rusk County. Family Living programs offer educational opportunities that strengthen families and communities, enhancing their uniqueness and diversity. Such programs offer:

  • help to communities to prepare children for improved learning in school by improving parenting skills, child care, nutrition and community resources.
  • help to make local assessments of pressing community issues, such as health care, housing and child care.
  • research and knowledge to state and local government officials and community leaders, to help them design public policies and programs that support families.

Rusk County Family Living Agent (50% appointment), Michelle Sanderson, directs Family Living programming into three major areas.  These three areas have been developed as a result of community needs assessments and responses to local private and county government partners.

These areas include:  Family/Divorce Education, Parent/Co-Parenting Education, and Family Financial Management.

Partners and referral sources include:  Rusk County Judge’s office, Health and Human Services, Probation and Parole, Rusk County Housing Authority, CEP, Indianhead Community Action Agency, Rusk County school districts and self-referrals.  The goal of family living education in Rusk County is to strengthen families to promote an overall healthier community, reduce and alleviate families in stress and transition, and to increase financial literacy by teaching individuals to be more financially stable, secure and responsible.
